The Sad News On Bobby Murcer Today
Murcer's tumor was malignant. Everything I wrote two weeks ago still applies.
Together, we need to marshal up our good thoughts and hopes and sent them towards Bobby's way today, and in the days that follow.
Godspeed Lemon.

The worst things happen to the nicest people. I firmly believe that and this is just another case. I've never met Bobby, but I've never heard anyone have anything negative to say about him, and the one person I do know who met him said he was a great human being.
Situations like these remind us just how scary and precious life is. One day everything is fine, and the next you're fighting for your life. There seems to be no rationality to it. Without getting too gooey about it, it's at times like these when you really feel silly over your petty concerns and have to realize that everything -- your LIFE -- can change in an instant.
I've gone through similar situations with family members. It is a draining, horrible, life-crushing experience. I hope with every fiber of my being that Bobby pulls through, and that his life isn't ended prematurely like so many others.
I hate to get all gooey on a sports blog, but having gone through the situation myself, I really feel for Bobby and his family.

I always think back to what Arthur Ashe said when he was told about being HIV positive, someone asked him if he ever questions' "Why him?". I thought his response was perfect, "why not me?". It also comes back to what Gherig said too, "I've had an awful lot to live for".
I really enjoyed Bobby's statement, he might be drawing the end of his line but he's definitely had (like Gherig) "an awful lot to live for". Quite honestly, I just hope he doesn't suffer too long.
Steve, which reminds me, I really think you should have had the book "Lou Gherig: Luckiest Man" listed in your poll. For me, that was my favorite Yankee book.
