A Parking Spot For Pavano?

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution -

The Braves have heard some offers for starting pitcher Tim Hudson, who hasn't met expectations in two seasons and is owed $32 million over the next three seasons.

But they wouldn't trade Hudson unless they could get another proven starter.

How about Carl Pavano and T.J. Beam for Tim Hudson? I wonder if John Schuerholz would bite on that one? It would save him some money too.

Huddy had a down year last year despite making 35 starts and pitching nearly 220 innings. I wonder if there's a major health problem there. They're the same age, I believe, and Hudson's got a far better career track record so if that actually happened, I would simply say it's addition by subtraction. Does Huddy have a no-trade?

I would bet that he does have a no-trade - IIRC, he wanted the Braves because it was close to home.

Maybe the attraction of hanging with Giambi and Damon, and the promise to name a river after him, would get him to drop the no-trade?

The Braves would never do it, and Hudson got shelled in the NL this year. How would he do facing the Red Sox and Blue Jays all year long?

Billy Beane knew what he was doing when he got rid of Mulder and Hudson. You notice that the one guy he kept -- Zito -- continued to decline, but stayed valuable, but the two guys he dealt both fell apart in an easier league (and one had a catastrophic injury and the other might be hurt, too)?

I'd rename the Hudson River "Santana", the East River "Halladay" and the Gowanus Canal "Carpenter" if that's what it would take.

Steve, I did a spit take at the name a river after him part. ha ha ha

The question is, is Hudson in decline or did he have a bad year and will he bounce back?

Pavano's contract calls for $10 million in 2007 and $11 million in 2008, with a buy out of $1.95 million for 2009 or a salary of $13 million.

Pavano has a no trade clause. Hudson does not.

Hudson's contract from Cott's Baseball Contracts is 07:$6M, 08:$13M, 09:$13M, 10:$12M mutual option
($1M buyout)

Considering the money assumed and similar risk in a player older than Pavano (Hudson will turn 32 next July), I think a 1 for 1 deal might be in order.

And as an added bonus, Pavano is exceedingly well rested.
