TopProspectAlert.com has posted their 2007 New York Yankees Top 10 Prospects. They like Joba Chamberlain a lot more than I do - but it's an interesting list.

Word out of HBL is that Chamberlain is throwing 98-99 with a filthy slider (and his numbers have been great; he throws hard with good control).
I don't think it's fair to write off a guy because he had a weight problem a few years back. I don't really understand the statement "When someone 6'2" says they're 230, they're probably closer to 250." I'm curious why that is. Isn't it possible for someone 6'2" to actually be 230 pounds? I'm 6'3" and I'm 180 pounds. And I promise I'm not 200.
Ian Kennedy and Joba have been very impressive in the HBL. Ian is just doing what he always does -- which is show good control and strike a lot of guys out despite not having a big fastball.
Joba was considered a steal at where we got him, and overall "BA" ranked the Yankees as having the second-best draft of anyone in baseball.

wow. I didn't hear Joba was throwing 98-99. I read 94-97. Where did u hear 99?
I dont think at this point he should be the #4 prospect - but maybe at the end of 2007 he could be. At this point, he's only pitched in Hawaii - even if he's dominating.
But yes bailey, if not for minor injuries and weight problems, he would've been a top 10 pick. if he keeps that stuff in check, he could be great.

Glad to see Betances getting some press. He was probably the best NYC HS pitcher in recent history. His senior year stats look like a typo - 0.17 ERA and a 2.5 Ks/Inn. Plus, the dude is like 7' tall.

I have some decent experience in the area of people with weight problems. Someone 6.3/180 would have no reason to lie. It's the fat people who always shave something off - because their real numbers are shocking and they don't like to admit them.
baileywalk - if you ever ballooned up from 180 to 240, and you had to tell someone your weight, at that time, I would bet that you would say something in the range of 220-225 rather than admit the 240 number. I just hope you never have the chance to test the theory.

I hope I never find out either, but I get your point now.

seeing as I'm 6'2" and 255lbs, I'd have to say 'yes'

Nice to see seven pitchers on that list. I hope the farm system can get healthier that it was the last couple of years.

Ditto that.
I can't remember the last time I was this excited about the farm system.

Early 90's, with Brien Taylor, Ed Martel, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, etc all in the system. I remember how Bernie was supposed to be the leadoff hitter that the Yanks needed since Henderson left town. Pat Kelly, Bob Wickman, Sterling Hitchcock, etc, etc, etc...

Brien Taylor
Shudder.
I hope the Yankees spend $80K a year on a couple of guys who do nothing but go around and make sure Hughes does not get into any fights.
