I'd still rather lose without Weaver than win with him. They must have used a combination of hypnosis, electro-shock therapy and heroic amounts of Ritalin to keep his head on straight.

I'm happy for Weaver. Everyone likes to point to the '03 series, but people like to conveniently forget that he had already pitched one solid inning for the Yanks, that the pitch A-Gon hit was a slider that he was way out in front and hooked for a lucky homer - a homer nonetheless. I never understood the criticism Torre got for having Weaver in there because he was trying to save his best bullet. Nobody ever points to the top of the 11th inning, if the Yanks had scored then and Mo comes in for the save then Weaver would have been crowned a hero for his solid one inning. In this game you go from hero to goat real quick; that's because people like to forget about some of the circumstances that happened in the prior innings.

The only reason Eckstein won the MVP is because they couldn't award the Cardinals' MVP to the Tigers' defense.

Everyone was waiting for the Tigers to revert back to the mediocre team they were at the end of the year, and they finally did in the World Series. They were hacking at everything at the plate, they played INCREDIBLY sloppy baseball, and their pitchers forgot how to throw to a base. The outfield defense was a joke. Okay, the slip in center was because of the conditions, but that "double" Eckstein hit into left off of Zumaya was nothing but a flyball. Also, Bonderman and Verlander (especially Verlander) reverted back to form (they're good, but not great).

As soon as the Cardinals went into Detroit and dominated them in game one with their worst pitcher, this series was over for me.
