Theo: "We Give Up!"

From the Boston Globe -

``It's not where we expected to be and not where we wanted to be," Epstein said of the club's eight-game deficit to the Yankees in the American League East. ``We're not immune to that kind of month. We played poorly, had a rash of injuries, and we don't get breaks. In short, we don't get the job done. Any team can find itself in this position. This is the reality right now. We're going to work awfully hard to make sure it doesn't happen again."

``On this road trip, we didn't get the results we were looking for and the health of the club was further compromised," Epstein said. ``We made an objective assessment of where we were. It doesn't mean that these games aren't important."

Boy, am I glad that the Yankees didn't have any bad luck, injuries, etc., this year. Poor Boston, huh?

We Yankee fans shouldn't get too full of ourselves. When Theo says he's going "to work awfully hard to make sure it doesn't happen again" you can take it to mean that Larry Lucchino and John Henry will call up Papa Selig for a summit meeting. Then we'll see what other ways Selig can f*ck us over in the name of the (so-called) Red Sox Nation.

Word, MJ. But, there may even be a limit to what Selig can do to manipulate the industry. Plus, he's already closed the deal on the original bargain by getting them their 1st title in 86 years. More than likely, Selig's too busy readying MLB's eventual entry into the Lost Wages market.

Good point, Steve. That's all you hear from RSN now, the injuries sank their season and they just couldn't catch a break. I guess they've forgotten about the revolving door on the DL for the Yankees this year, not to mention the fact that several of the Yankees who went down, went down for the whole year.

What he's doing is trying to lull the yankees into a false sense of security & have the red sox take their final shot at yankee stadium in September. I hope we dont take the bait and lay down like weve done before.

LOL "We dont catch any breaks" LOL again, NO Theo, you dont get one of the better young outfielders in the game to drop a ball out of his glove and hit it out w/ his hand for a home run for a career loser alex cora. They got enough breaks in the last few years to last some teams a lifetime. Finally, you get whats coming to you, just not by the orioles.

Ironic that the most honest assessment of how bad things are in RSN comes from the fan sites, certainly not the national media. Nothing more uplifting for a Yankees fan than a quick surf through those sites! Now, if the Yanks had tanked the way Boston did, Fox, ESPN, and all the rest would have had a friggin field day with the story. Yes, we still have a month to go, so no ones finished yet, but the fat lady is warming up her vocal chords, and Theo will have his work cut out for him to finish second next year, especially if Toronto gives that idiot Gibbons the axe and brings in Girardi.

Amen. Boston is getting a bit of a pass, IMHO, in the national media on this one. But, FWIW, I think their local media has been on them pretty good.
