ESPN`s The Bronx is Burning News
I still hear that song every time this topic comes up........
From the UPI -
New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner will be played by Oliver Platt and John Turturro plays Billy Martin in ESPN`s miniseries, 'The Bronx is Burning.'
The eight-part series adapted from Jonathan Mahler`s bestseller 'Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bronx Is Burning,' takes place during the volatile summer of 1977 that included the Son of Sam killings, a citywide blackout and a Yankees World Series championship led by manager Martin.
Joining Platt and Turturro will be Daniel Sunjata of 'Rescue Me' as Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, Zap2it.com reported.
Oliver Platt to play Big Stein? What, was Dr. Timothy Johnson not available?

Ah, the good old Bronx Zoo days.
Sorta puts the "A-Rod is kind of distant to his teammates" kerfluffle in its place.

I won't be within 500 feet of a TV while ESPN does their little 8th grade play adaptation of this. Everything "ESPN Original Entertainment" touches turns to complete shit. And given their predeliction for extreme negativity regarding anything Yankee, I can only assume they'll change the story somehow and hint that Reggie was a wife-beating coke addict and Billy Martin was a Nazi war criminal.
Hyperbole, of course. But I'm sure it crossed their minds...

Just checked it out on imdb.com...the real life Crazy Joe Davola from Seinfeld fame is the executive producer. No joke.

Could you imagine something like that going on now?
