Sori Returns?
From Jon Heyman:
Soriano is considered strictly a 10-week rental by all but one of the teams currently bidding on him. As one AL exec put it, "We all know where he's going to wind up eventually,'' meaning the Yankees.
Executives say Bowden requested the Yankees' only two bona fide blue-chippers along with "two more prospects."
Likewise, the Yankees are telling folks that Hughes and Tabata aren't going anywhere. Their strategy for now, like everyone else's, is to wait Bowden out and hope the price drops before the July 31 deadline.
Ten days ago, thereabouts, I offered my opinion on Alfonso Soriano.
Nothing has changed since then - so, obviously, I find this report to be upsetting.

I don't know if I really believe this story. Are the Yankees really interested in Soriano? Somehow I doubt it and it's more likely that Bowden is blowing smoke up the league's ass that the Yankees are in this market. Why trade prospects of any sort for Soriano now when they can get him "for free" at Christmas-time?

Steve, this should make you feel a little bit better:
ESPN Radio is reporting that Alfonso Soriano will be moved soon. They have Soriano going to the White Sox in exchange for Brandon McCarthy (though I doubt it's just McCarthy). The White Sox are also apparently acquiring pitcher Mike MacDougal from the Royals in exchange for minor leaguer Tyler Lumsden (who is actually a pretty good pitcher).

I should hope that it's more than just Brandon McCarthy for Soriano. If that's all it is then, shoot, let's give Bowden Chacon, Ponson, and Wilson for him.

good news except if it makes the Yanks panic into giving up too much for an impact offensive player. After this deal, the Chisox are a lot harder to catch in the wildcard (even if Sori is a deeply flawed player) and you hope this doesn't lead to a reactive move on the Yankees part.

I have a feeling Sori's OBP will go back down to its historic levels once back in the AL and in that line-up. Frankly, the last thing the Chisox need is another free-swinging power hitter. They've only now come to the realization that Scott Podsednik doesn't get on base nearly enough to justify giving him 600 ABs. Guess what, Soriano's not the answer.

i dont want the yanks to trade for soriano now. if they really want him, i'd wait to sign him as a FA. then maybe trade Arod, put cano at 3rd (his minors position), and soriano back at 2b. i see him hitting cleanup.
OF would be matsui, damon & cabrera in RF.

I realize how much this is being beaten to death but...
...Regardless of how much one likes or dislikes A-Rod, trading him is not an option unless, of course you don't mind getting unequal value in return.

They'll take the OBP if his SLG goes back to historic levels.
Free swinger or not, Sori is an upgrade over Posednik.
