Joe D. Had Friends

Steve Politi in the Star Ledger has a great story about how some "good fellas" help Joe DiMaggio get his lucky bat back in 1941. It's worth reading.

Joe called his bat "Betsy Ann." Funny, Shoeless Joe Jackson called his bat "Black Betsy."

I wonder if they were related?

I think Black Betsy was Betsy Ann's great-aunt.

That piece referenes Cramer's DiMaggio biography. Did anyone ever read it? Was it any good or was it a chop-job?

I bought it - and never read it. But, I plan on reading one day. Those I know who read it said that it's good.

Cramer's Joe D bio was an excellent read, especially with its insights into why Joe D was the way he was. I know some people thought it was overly critical of DiMaggio, but I thought it was a balanced and fairly critical look at him.
