Unit Suspended
From the AP -
Yankees pitcher Randy Johnson was suspended five games by the commissioner's office today for intentionally throwing at Cleveland's Eduardo Perez the night before.
New York manager Joe Torre was suspended for one game. Unless Johnson appeals, both penalties are scheduled to begin Friday night, when the Yankees open an interleague series in Washington.
Also, Johnson and Torre were each fined an undisclosed amount by Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations for Major League Baseball.
Wow. And that's for missing the guy. I wonder how many games Ozzie Guillen is going to get?

What a joke. Let the players police this and stop with these stupid warnings already.

Geez, what if he actually hit him? What a crock.
And I can see both sides of the argument regarding Johnson's timing, but the fact is, Yankee batters have been getting nailed all year--it's always Jeter or Giambi or Posada getting nailed, or so it seems. It's about time someone said "enough."
Peter Abraham is saying Posada and Johnson are buddies now. Well, he said: "Jorge Posada (elbow) is fine. He had a nerve issue from being hit and couldn't grip the bat last night. He was grinning when he talked about Randy Johnson brushing back Eduardo Perez last night. The Unit and Jorge are best buds now. Can peace in the Middle East be far behind?" Too funny.

Maybe Randy should've just gone up to the guy and coldcocked him one. That's only twice a suspension for merely coming inside.

I'm more than a little confused with MLB's response to the HBP incidents from Wednesday night. On the one hand, RJ and Torre were tossed after RJ threw high and tight to Eduardo Perez after a warning was issued. Fine, I get that. On the other hand, Guillen and rookie pitcher Sean Tracey received no suspension, despite the fact that a warning was already in place in the ChiSox-Rangers game and Tracey came inside on Hank Blalock. Guillen threw two tantrums in the dugout (one to show disgust that Tracey missed his target (proving intent) and one to chew out Tracey for his miss (further proving intent)) and then held a press conference saying that it was open season on any team that hit one of his players first. I don't get it. Three tirades and an inside pitch after both benches were warned and the ChiSox don't hear a peep from MLBHQ.
I'm not saying the Yanks are getting shafted here, I'm only saying the White Sox are getting away with the same thing. What gives?

Bob Watson hates George Steinbrenner for forcing him out as Yankees GM...
Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the Chisox, is one of Selig's most vocal and fervent supporters and has always toed the Selig line about small market/big market, publically funded stadia, and, remarkably enough since he's in Chicago, the 3rd largest market in the country, has benefited from revenue sharing and George's luxury tax largesse for several of the last ten years...
Bud Selig...oh, you all know this one.
