I guess I applaud Cashman's confidence but I hope he doesn't mean that to say that this is the team he's taking into a fight for the division. The AL East isn't dodging the AL Central bullet like they did last year. The Yankees need another hitter and another pitcher and Boston's done a better job of working the waivers and deadline deals over the past few years, Chacon notwithstanding.

I guess I'm not very objective in this matter since I really dislike Cashman...

Possibly Cash is just talking down trade rumors because he doesn't want to get held up at gunpoint.

Cashman has to be even more creative this year because he has young players people want. Everyone overvalues the guy they're trading, so every time Cash goes looking for a bat, he gets asked for three players -- Cano, Wang and Hughes. The current Yankee team has a lot of age. So he should be reluctant to part with any good minor leaguer. I wouldn't cry my eyes out if Cash traded Gardner or Eric Duncan, but it should be for more than a half-a-year, quick-fix guy.

The Yankees might need another pitcher. They might not. I think Wright can hold his own. And at this point he's not so much a five-inning pitcher as he is LIMITED to be used as a five-inning pitcher. And I know Chac hasn't looked great, but I don't think you can totally discount what he did earlier in the season. I want to see Chac throw one more game before I give up on him.

And, really, I think you're just as likely to get a handful of good starts from someone like Steven White as you are from some piece of junk from another team.

FWIW, I've been looking at rosters lately and can confirm that there's nothing good out that that will come cheap - in terms of SP.

Forget a SP, a good one is never going to be cheap. I'd like to see a bat for a corner OF, and an innings eating RP.
