What A Maroon
This from David Zingler on the site of the NBC affiliate in Ohio:
Rant One: Cry Me A River
First off, I would like to share my immense pity for all of the downtrodden, oppressed Yankees fans out there. Despite their best efforts to waste more money than the United States government (i.e. Jaret Wright, Kevin Brown, Tony Womack, etc.), the poor Yanks have been unable to run away with yet another AL East title. Instead, they have been relegated to Wild Card contenders -- talk about slumming. You'd think with 26 World Series titles and a postseason streak that dates back to Bill Clinton's first team, fans of the Bronx Bombers would be a little content and even happy. But no. Instead, many of them have decided to play up the victim role and wallow in self-pity. That’s just sad. Just think if they had grown up following the Brewers.
To respond to that, I would have to quote Bugs Bunny: What an imbesile, what an ultra maroon.
Is it possible that he was confusing Yankees fans and Indians fans? Didn't the Tribe sellout every game when they were winning - and, yet, come 2002, 2003, 2004, the fans stopped coming when the team started to stink?

I could of think of some less polite language to describe Mr. Zingler. He suffers under a delusion shared by so many denizens of the "great flyover" -- that Yankee fans sit around having a pity party every year the team doesn't win the World Series.
News flash: We're fans. Losing leads to complaining. Winning leads to celebration. That's true in Cleveland, New York and everywhere.
My response to this knuclehead is this: Are you so mired in your own inferiority complex that, even though your team is in the thick of a pennant race, the *first item* is your column is how much you hate Yankee fans? Pathetic.

That's sorta my beef here. Rag on the Yankees all you want - they're fair game. But, why start throwing darts at Yankees fans?
First, you're painting with a broad brush - which is always bad. Second, what gives this person the right to tell someone else how they should be reacting to something? If a Yankees fan wants to lament over this season, they have every right to do so. The fact that the Yankees have won in the past is no reason to disallow someone to deal with the emotions over something happening now.
But, it's so easy to just take shots. And, it's weak.

who said the media is objective? this is typical stuff. something they won't own up to. hey, attack the Yankees all you want. their success over the years has fostered envy and hatred in fans of rival teams and that's understandable. but when you're a journalist, aren't you supposed to filter out that kind of parochial childishness? why do they do reflexively bash Yankees fans as well? what are we supposed to do? root for the Indians?

This guy is probably just bitter that he is stuck in Columbus, a minor league sports town where the Crew are the big news. Kind of odd that he would attack Yankee fans since I assume there are quite a few in his town.

My mistake: This guy is just a syndicated web columnist that the Columbus station picks up for some reason. Like most of these schlubs he seems to have an irrational hatred of the Yankees. In an earlier piece he said something like anyone who loves baseball and has a soul should root against the Yankees. Fool.

Hmm, and this year the Yankees have hit the 4 million mark in attendance. Must be an awful lot of wallowing going on in the stadium.
And the wildcard maybe the sweet spot to be in. WCs have won the last three world series. Oh, and the first WC Marlins did beat a certain Cleveland team in 1997.
