The Countdown Begins

From NoSenseWorrying.com:

262

That's the number that was in the lower left hand corner on the marquis outside of the Stadium. The one that lists the opponent of the night and the game time. Driving in over the Macombs Dam Bridge I noticed the number but had no clue what it meant. Then, during the game I heard someone talking about it. Turns out, 262 is the number of home games that are left at the current Yankee Stadium.

Gosh, that "last game ever" is going to be insane.

There are also rumors that the 2008 All-Star game will be in the Bronx. It would be fantastic if they let the 81- & 61-game season ticket holders get their seats for the events. But I doubt MLB would be that generous. Those bleachers seats would be prime real estate for the HR Derby.

I saw that report too.
Forget tickets. The average fan will never get them.

I still think it won't happen. They'll want an ASG in the new place too badly - and they'll never do one in the old place, and then again a few years later in the new place.

Wow, so it's official. When's groundbreaking?

Better get my camera & film ready, I'd like to document the constuction, as time and money (and cooperation from the local authorities) allow.

This is going to be something

Maybe it's me, but I've always felt that the ASG should've been held on a rotating basis, alternating between leagues year by year.

I find the fact that there hasn't been an ASG in NY since 1977 pretty odd

The thing is, Raf, there are 30 teams, so you figure each team would get it every 30 years. Factor in the desire to highlight the new stadiums and 40 years isn't really all that outlandish. I do wish they'd kiss Yankee Stadium goodbye with one last All-Star Game, though. It's where the blasted thing started, after all.

Cliff - the first one was in Chicago.
