Steve, that was amazing fast work (presuming you just whipped that chart up?)

Given that these figures are right, and the Red Sox play .600 ball, we can only afford to lose 14 games.

We can still get there. It will not take a miracle, but the Yanks need to play like a $208 million from now til the end of the season, no more if, ands or buts. If you think that's not possible, well -- you've got ample reason to think so. Actually what bothers me most is that now the Yanks also need a little help from the rest of the league -- not in control of their own destiny.

Root hard for Texas tonight, everybody.

After the mid-90s, not to mention his recent problems, I never thought I'd actually root for Kenny Rogers ever again. Tonight I hope he pitches another perfect game.

Scott - I had two charts ready, one if they won, and one if they lost... {wink}

Root for Texas? That only helps now. Rooting for the fire destroying Fenway is the bigger ticket.....

That is correct, if the Sox play .600, they would win 95 on the season and the Yankees would then need to win 36 of 50 to better them with 96 wins.

What does payroll have to do with performance? The NY Rangers in the NHL have shown this for years. As do many NBA teams.

Bernie is done, yet he's taking down $10+ million this season. Same with Posada. And RJ. Etc.

GS doesn't get this, yet. Probably never will.

No quality play in CF equals more runs allowed. And Sheffield in RF is a near disaster.

And so it goes. An old team with over-the-hill players earning way too much.

Fugeddaboudit - hope for the WC

Hopefully, there is one more 16-2 run left in this team. As bad as they have looked, this team is talented enough to go on a tear--especially if the starting pitching continues to be decent.

If we get three monster weeks from these guys, then we get the division or the wildcard. If not, it will be the longest October in 11 years.

We just have to hope that the mysterious win streak button clicks "on" soon.
