Bernie's Option
Not exactly a shocker.

Finally, Cashman makes a good decision.
FWIW, as a Sox fan it's going to be quite weird for me to see him in another uniform next year. Through recent years, he's one of very few Yankee players that have not given the rest of the world a reason to not like him, and I have grown quite fond of him in the OF (especially this year).
Seriously though, Yankees are losing a class guy and great player in his time, but I think that time has passed, but could we all be wrong?
If the world is on it's correct axis, Bernie will retire, and not go onto play corner OF in some small park and hit .315 and 30HR a year for the for some team like the Angels or Texas for the next two years.
Now that would be funny to see.

I think Bernie could still have a few productive years if he were used exclusively as a DH. I really think the Yankees robbed him of a few years by putting him in a position where he not only was performing foorly defensively, but his problems in the field affected his hitting and his longevity. IF he does go somewhere else, I hope they use him properly and he prospers.

He never played LF this year, reportedly, because he was not comfortable there. (Which is a crock, to me.) He's going to have to back off that in order to get a job anywhere next year.

Feels a lot like Mattingly in '95

Has anyone else heard about the Yankees grooming Eric Duncan to play center field?

No. That would be a shocker. I'm not sure he has the legs for it.

I live in South Jersey and have seen Eric Duncan play many times for the Thunder. If they're grooming him to play center field, we really are getting desperate. Let's just say I don't get the impression he's in the lineup for his glove.
I thought we'd hit the bottom when Melky Cabrera was starting in center...

Hmmm... I heard it from a friend who's client knows Eric personally. He was going to try to find out more and get back to me.

Is there something wrong with Matsui? I'm sure he can be adequate in CF, and I would think it'd be easier to find a corner OF than a "true" CF-er
