The Jeter Beater
From an AP report:
Speedy outfielder Scott Podsednik of the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt earned the final spots on the All-Star teams in Internet fan voting completed yesterday.
In a surprise finish, the unheralded Podsednik, who once played in the Mariners' organization, edged popular Yankees captain Derek Jeter for the 32nd roster spot on the American League squad.
The White Sox also made a strong push for Podsednik the past few days. They had a laptop in the dugout before Tuesday's game for players to cast their votes. Employees wore shirts and pins encouraging fans to vote for Podsednik.
Personally, I think that when you have a guy who is on an obvious Hall of Fame career path, who is also one of the faces that your national TV package uses to push its broadcasts, and who is having a very good season and has been a stellar All-Star game performer in the past, you find a way to get that guy on your All-Star team. But, that's just me.
On the positive note, while Jeter has been an All-Star in 6 of the 7 seasons prior to this one, the one year that he did not make it (2003) the Yankees went to the World Series that season.
I'm sure Jeter would be willing to take that trade again this year.

No, I'm saying pick him for the team.

right....Terry Francona is going to pick the captain of their most hated rivals for the All-Star Team.
To Quote Wayne Campbell: "NOT!"

The players picked most of the reserves, anyway and I think they blew a few spots. One of Hideki or Jeter should be on the team, at least, really.

How in the world can you justify Podsednick over either DJ or Matsui? Look at the #'s man, good god! Only a baseball subliterate could compare their essential #'s and put that weak-hitting Woemack clone on the all-star team. And if he's such an asset as a basestealer, why does he have only 48 runs? Jeter has 67. Jeter is a better player in every category.
