If the season ended right now, and A-Rod won the AL MVP, and Cano was named AL Rookie of the Year (ROY), and Mo won the AL Cy Young Award, the majority of baseball fans out there would not make too much of a fuss over it. (By the way, if Tadahito Iguchi gets the ROY this season, then Matsui should take someone to court on the 2003 ROY selection.)
Has there ever been a team that had the MVP, ROY, and Cy Young winner come from them, all of them, in the same season? If so, has that team ever not finished in 1st? I have to look into this one.
If anyone knows the answer, please let me know.

MO will not win the Cy Young, they will never give him that award. As wrong as that may be.

It is extremely difficult for a reliever to win the Cy Young award. That year, the reliever has to be overwhelmingly dominant - which Mo is this year - and there has to be no good starting pitching prospects.
Taking a quick gander at the stats on espn.com, in the ERA leaders: Halliday is on the DL, Rogers has the media issues, Buerhle is 2.96/11-4/96 Ks, Garland is 3.09/15-4/65 K's, and Santana is 10-5 / 3.70 / 154 K's. Buerhle is a good pick, particularly if he can get to 20 wins; Garland has strong 2nd-half numbers for the last three years, and Santana is the reigning winner with a too-high ERA.
Who knows? If Mariano keeps his ERA around 1.00, gets over 40 saves... maybe!

Cano, I can deal with at ROY, and think he has played great. That's as far as I'll go on this discussion - A-Rod is in no way hands down MVP with Manny leading many of the OF stats, including assists and among the leaders in errors and fielding % - so, I hardly think A-Rod is the best candidate without questions from more than a few people.
If Mariano happens to get the Cy Young, its a crime against the award. It was a shame when Gagne got it, but he did have 55 straight saves when doing so. Mariano will have pitched less than 65 innings this year, cant be counted on for two inning saves as frequently as he used to, will not be where he was with SO, and quite frankly cannot be used as much as he used to. He's a great pitcher, and valuable to NYY, but Halliday (even with the DL time) is going to be the clear winner. Even if Halliday falls off, both Chicago pitchers could have over 20 wins with around 3.0 ERA's - so no, Mo should not be the Cy Young...let's save that for the guys who actually pitch games, not single innings every two or three days.

PS: Halliday scheduled to make his start against NY first week in August, so the time on the DL is not as important as it sounds, as he hardly missed any at all.

I would also point out that while I am a huge fan of Cano, there will be def. consideration given to Huston Street (rookie closer) and Nick Swisher (decent numbers so far...but showing marked improvement as the weeks go by) of the A's. I don't think that Iguchi will be the competition - those A's will.
