Cone On The Big Unit
From the News:
Throughout his career, David Cone always was a New York kind of guy. He thinks Alex Rodriguez is, too. Randy Johnson? Maybe not so much.
"Randy's never been a real outgoing guy," Cone said yesterday at the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation charity golf event in Briarcliff Manor. "He's not a guy who embraces the attention and (publicity), and that's one reason he went to Arizona, to live in his home in a lower-key market. He's the type of guy that likes things set."
I wonder what Conie thinks of Mike Mussina or Kevin Brown?

Don't get me wrong. I love David Cone but...isn't a lot of the shit he's been spewing lately due to sour grapes over how he seems to have been banished from the Yankees by George for not one but two cardinal sins: playing for both the Mets and the Red Sox. He's pushing hard to get a gig on the new Mets cable net next year. So far, the only pitcher the Yankees have had, in his opinion, who could take the NY heat was...wait for it...David Cone. How cute, how precious.

Like the rest of the world, He (Cone) probably thinks Moose is inconsitent and not all that great, and Kevin Brown is one of the worst Yankee mistakes of all time that looks more like a batting practice pitcher than a 15mil/annum ace. Or, maybe he loves the state of the Yankee pitching staff right now.

FWIW, my point on bring up Moose and Brown -
they too are the way that Cone paints Johnson. Yet, Mussina's been OK and Brown's a bust. So, that shows that you never know. Johnson could be fine, or a bust. But, just because he's a certain way does not mean he can't work it out in NY.

I like this quote: "He's not a guy who embraces the attention and (publicity)"
Yes- unfortunately- unlike Cone- we haven't caught the Big Unit playing with his big unit in the bullpen.
Sorry- tasteless, I know.
